PUT YOUR BODY IN MOTION!

by Dr. Brian Nwannunu, Orthopedic Surgeon

Many people spend too much time waiting—for motivation, for the right moment, or for things to get easier. But real change usually begins when a person decides to do something, even if it is small. Whether it means exercising, working toward a goal, or pushing through fear, putting your body in motion is often the first step toward improving your life.

A regular day may be spent sitting in class, at work, or at home. Because of that, it is easy to become inactive without even realizing it. Moving your body through exercise, sports, walking, or even stretching can make a big difference. It helps improve strength, energy, and overall health. It can also prevent some of the problems that come from sitting too much. Staying healthy takes effort. It is not enough to say we want to feel better—we have to get up and move. Whatever the reason, it’s time to put your body in motion again!

At the same time, physical movement can also help a person mentally and emotionally. When people feel stressed, overwhelmed, or tired, being active can help them feel better. Going for a walk, dancing, or playing a sport can improve mood and reduce tension. Sometimes movement gives people a mental break and helps them think more clearly. It can be a healthy way to deal with pressure instead of staying stuck in negative thoughts. In this way, “put your body in motion” is not just advice for physical health, but also for emotional well-being.

Starting is what creates motivation. Once a person takes the first step, the next step often feels easier. For example, someone may not feel like exercising, but after a short workout they feel proud and want to keep going. Getting started builds momentum, and momentum helps people continue. Action matters. It encourages people to take care of their health, manage stress in a positive way, and go after what they want in life. It shows that waiting around usually does not lead to progress. Even small actions can lead to important changes over time. When people choose to move instead of staying still, they give themselves a chance to grow. That is why putting your body in motion is not just about movement—it is about making life happen.

What can you do today to get motion started in your life? Chair exercises? Stretches? Short strolls that can turn into mile walks? Choose to get up today for a better you!
