SUE MILLER GRANDI: MS. TEXAS SENIOR AMERICA 2024

by Mary Frances Hansen

As a former Ms. Texas Senior America 1997, it has been an honor to interview Sue Miller Grandi, Ms. Texas Senior America 2024. What a talented, accomplished, and AMAZING woman she is. We are so proud of her as she radiates “Inner Beauty” spreading kindness to everyone she meets. Sue has a heart of gold and has been a great role model to her peers and the younger generation encouraging them to attain their full potentials.

Sue is one of ten siblings raised on a farm whose mother inspired a hard work ethic with strong Christian values, a love for music, and a deep gratitude for each and every day! Sue is 88 years young and faith is still her foundation that continues to get her through life's tough times.

As I was interviewing Sue she shared with me in 2020 she lost her husband, grandson, daughter, brother, sister, and dog in one year. She told me in the depths of her grief she felt she was the only one hurting like this and it was hard for her to find joy in her life. She woke up one day and said to herself, “This is enough of your self pity, now turn your grief into your faith and do something productive.”

Sue has sewed all her life and it has been her therapy after the hardest year of her life. She turned her passion into a successful business, “Sisters Sewing Kindness, ” which has brought back joy in her life and so much into other people's lives. It is now a very successful blanket business. She also has a Non-Profit business for the countless blankets she and her sister donate to Veterans, Cancer Patients, Shelters, and more. Sue loves the quote, “No act of kindness goes unrewarded.”

Sue started college at 42 for her Teaching Degree then went on to get a Masters in Reading before teaching in public schools for over 40 years. Her love of reading and teaching led her to release the popular 8 Children's book series, “Eddie’s Amazing Adventures.” She told me, “These books have opened many opportunities to continue teaching children in schools, shows, and more. They benefit charities in memory of lost loved ones.”

Sue has sung her entire life but started taking college Opera classes at the age of 78 to truly master her voice. This led to the release of her first official studio album, “Music Matters,” recorded on the original Beatles' Abbey Road console and Aretha Franklin's studio mic. The album showcases timeless masterpieces from Broadway to Opera and more. The album will be followed by multiple performances. It is sold on her blanket site (www.SistersSewingKindness.com), and other digital platforms.

Sue and her daughter Merry will be starting a National TV show, "Everyday Matters," this fall which is a platform to address topics that matter from aging to fashion, health, money, music, sports, and more. They feel it will be very exciting to promote the knowledge and stories of their guests.

Sue's platform as a Ms. Texas Senior America Queen, is to encourage women of all ages. Sue told me, “It has been an honor to serve as Ms Texas Senior America 2024! The countless appearances and new friends have been a blessing!” She has inspired many with her message.... it is never too late to follow your dreams, to serve, to learn, to be grateful, (even in the ups and downs) and the choices we make in life are lessons learned. LOVE one another and cherish what precious little time we have in this life! Sue feels, “Each day is a blessing and she is living her life to the fullest!”

Sue went to Atlantic City, September 29 -October 3, and represented Texas at the Ms. Senior America Pageant. She represented Texas well and we are so proud of her. She was selected the recipient of the “Outstanding Talent Award 2024,” over 45 contestants.
